WHY GO?

The hike across Franconia Ridge, crossing Little Haystack, Mount Lincoln, and Mount Lafayette, is one of New Hampshire’s most spectacular hikes. You are above treeline for more than 2 miles with views the whole time. The hike up Falling Waters Trail passes several picturesque waterfalls. The descent on Old Bridle Path crosses an open ridge with fine views.

Start: Falling Waters–Old Bridle Path Trailhead

Elevation gain: 4,023 feet

Distance: 8.6-mile loop

Hiking time: 5–6 hours

Difficulty: Strenuous

Seasons: Late May to October is best. This is the most overcrowded hike in New Hampshire, so avoid summer weekends.
